Conference on Undergraduate Research in Mathematics
Penn State University
November 20-21, 2009
Logistical Details for Conference Participants
We are very excited about our upcoming conference and hope that it
will be a wonderful experience for all involved. With that in mind, we
provide the following information to help each of our participants.
Timing for the Conference – Although the final schedule has
not yet been determined, the following tentative plans have been made
for the Friday and Saturday of the conference:
- Friday – beginning with registration in the late
afternoon and dinner starting around 6:30pm. The evening will end with
an ice cream run around 9:00pm. - Saturday – beginning with breakfast around 8:30am with
student talks starting in the mid-morning around 10:00am. The day will
end around 4:30pm.
Driving Directions – Click here for driving directions to State College, PA.
Hotels – We have reserved blocks of rooms at the following:
- Days Inn – Their phone number is 814-238-8454. They are located just north of campus.
- Sleep Inn – Their phone number is 814-235-1020. They are located just south of campus.
Note that you make your own hotel reservations. We strongly encourage students to share a room if possible to reduce costs.
Maps – Maps for both campus and the surrounding State College area can be found at the links below.
- Penn State University
- State College, PA (where Penn State is located)
Parking – For those driving to the conference, it is
important to note that parking will be available at all hotels in the
area. Moreover, some of the hotels are located close enough to campus
that walking from those hotels to campus would be the wisest choice.
(This is certainly true in the case of the Days Inn mentioned above.)
For those who stay at hotels farther away from campus, note that
parking garages are available within 1-2 blocks from campus. The best
parking garage downtown (which is closest to our locations on campus)
can be found at the corner of Beaver Avenue and Pugh Street in State
College. See a map of State College
for more information. Unfortunately, there are no good places to park
on campus, but the garages downtown provide an excellent alternative
and they are quite close to campus.
Airline Reservations – Note that each participant who is
flying to the conference is responsible for making his/her own airline
reservations. In doing so, it will be important to keep our funding guidelines in mind.
Getting From the Airport to Campus – If you are staying at
the Days Inn, they provide a shuttle. Just call the main desk at
238-8454 and request to be picked up. The Handy Delivery (24 hours a
day, 7 days a week) taxi service’s phone number is 353-6003 and costs
around $12.00 or less. The Nittany Express (5am-12:30am, 7 days a week)
Airport Shuttle’s phone number is 867-4646. Note that the airport
provides complimentary phones located in the baggage claim area.
Reimbursements – It is imperative that you keep your receipts
(for air flight, hotel, etc.). For those being supported financially by
us, we will provide reimbursement at some time after the conference.
The forms for reimbursement will be provided at the conference.
For more information, or if you have any questions on the above, please contact the conference co-coordinators, James Sellers and Diane Henderson, at curm@math.psu.edu.
